Job Title: Senior Structural Design Manager (Buildings)
Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base)

Hours of Work: 37 Per week
What You’ll be doing:
Reporting to the Principal Structural Design Manager, you’ll have vital responsibility for developing the client’s strategic requirement into a detailed Statement of Requirements (SOR) addressing performance, dependencies, risks, test and commissioning, applicable standards/regulations, and acceptance criteria.
Aligned with this, you’ll also be responsible for building, developing, and managing multi-discipline internal and external design teams. By extension, you’ll manage the design process through the development of the RIBA design stages, factoring in timescales and feasibility of design elements in practice and ensuring the design process meets the relevant legislation and regulations.
Operationally, you’ll also ensure designs align to client’s strategic and environmental objectives, including Net Zero Carbon etc, and actively offer innovations to support these objectives. Lastly to note, you’ll confidently support and advise the client regarding design elements maximising relations and factoring in delivery.
You’ll Have:
A Degree within Structural Engineering, 10 plus years of experience in a relevant industry and be currently holding or working towards Chartered Engineer status. Factoring in your familiarity with multiple projects, you’ll have exposure to new structures, repairs, refurbishments, multiple construction materials, the full engineering lifecycle and have competent knowledge of all engineering, procurement, and construction aspects of delivering projects. Experience in conducting structural surveys, and providing repair specifications.
Knowledge of Building Regulations, British standards and Eurocodes is equally essential.

With the responsibility of monitoring and influencing within this position, you’ll have strong communication skills, joined with established negotiation ability. You’ll also be able to showcase key attributes such as listening, clarification, concise behaviours and persuasiveness during any stage of the design project.
Your presentation skills are equally as important where you’ll be able to convey concepts and lengthy work streams in clear, concise, and visually appealing formats with consideration to the target audience. In alignment, you will be able to confidently deliver mentorship and support other engineers, particularly those less experienced.
