Key Accountability 1 – Design Excellence

60% of time


Delivering clean water and wastewater infrastructure projects within a framework contract A comprehensive understanding of the application of restraint and non-restraint fittings. Knowledgeable about pipe materials and their applications. Knowledgeable on a variety of pipline construction techniques. Production of Impact and Commissioning plans for working with and connecting into the live network Development of designs and the coordination of multidisciplinary teams. Ability to apply fundamental design principles of pipelines (pressure and gravity flow) Ability to read drawings, model reviews and produce clear and concise design sketches to be incorporated into a Model; Providing practical answers to technical queries Providing input to proposals, work scope, work schedule and budgets Design development from feasibility studies, optioneering and detailed designs Computer-aided design and providing input into modelling. Ability to understand and implement the hierarchy in risk management in design and be able to highlight Design Risk Assessments;

Key Accountability 2 – Excellence in Health & Safety

15% of time

Ability to prepare a Pre-Construction Information file (PCI) as required in the procurement of Ground Investigation Works and Assembly of permanent works on Site; Assist in the collation of information from the Tier 2 Contractors and Principal Contractor in the preparation of a Health and Safety File; Provide input to the Designers Quality Assurance File and ensure it is reviewed and updated accordingly. Assist in responding to Technical Queries during assembly of permanent works on Site and have an awareness of cost, Health & Safety and structural integrity of any design change request raised by the Contractor;

Key Accountability 3 –Project Management/ Site Surveys

15% of time

Progress projects from the feasibility stage through detailed design to construction Liaise and maintain good working relationships with clients, operational staff and third parties Attend and document site surveys to review opportunities, risks and mitigation plans Prepare site investigation requirements and review the results; Prepare topographic survey briefs and be able to understand the applicability of specific tools and techniques such as Laser scanning, drone survey and check output deliverables Ensure that the technical content of all work is carried out in accordance with the agreed timescales and budgets Ensure that project design output and procurement documentation are prepared in accordance with appropriate professional standards and accordance with the design Quality Plan and Procurement Ensure the correct implementation of technical standards set by the AWS design guides, POSHWASTE etc. Ensure that all work is carried out in full compliance with the Risk & Value process and the Alliance Quality systems. Monitor the progress of design against time and cost and advise the Technical Manager and Project Manager of any deviation from the programmed delivery times or budgeted cost as soon as it occurs. Recognise issues that deviate from the specifications of the mandate and bring them to the attention of all those who need to know, especially if they are being raised at CDAG. Reduce group regulatory and capital costs (PM1) Deliver projects on Time, Cost and Quality (PM3) Appreciate compliance with financial management procedures (SAP) (PM5) Manage sub-consultants when required (external designers, M&E, Topo survey, GI subcontractors, etc)

Key Accountability 4- Collaboration

5% of time

Work closely with team members from other disciplines to ensure the project requirements are met and drive efficient delivery. Implement constructive communication with the internal stakeholders to assist with the production of practical, safe and economical designs. Review the design output with the Design Manager before it is issued for construction and handed over to AWS. Participate in regular team updates and assist the SPDM/Design Manager to organise opportunities for the team to discuss work progress and new ideas.

Proactively research, present and implement innovative new processes and ways of working to optimise output.

Working towards attaining chartered engineering status with a relevant institution such as the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE)
