Mental Health Support Worker – Needed!

Location: Dibden Purlieu

Salary Scale: £ to £100 per day

Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are working with a lovely  SEN school in the heart of Dibden Purlieu to recruit a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join their friendly and collaborative team. This school offers a strong community feel, a well-organised structure, and a team of passionate educators who support each other every step of the way. 

Previous experience of working with pupils and students with Autism is highly desirable but not essential! You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside, according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising pupils as they explore further afield.

This Mental Health Support Worker position provides an excellent entry to the field for people who are interested in Special Education.


All of our candidates receive extensive training to teach children with Autism to acquire skills and maximise independence in the areas of communication, academics, socialisation, self-management of behaviours and daily living skills.

Key Responsibilities of a Mental Health Support Worker:


  • To support students who struggle with their class work
  • Facilitate a fun and friendly learning environment
  • To provide support to the class teacher
  • To help the class teacher prepare lesson materials and classroom boards
  • To keep the classroom a tidy and presentable environment
  • To encourage children to do their best
  • Help manage classroom behaviour
  • Listen to the children read and practice their phonics


Qualifications & Skills required for Mental Health Support Worker:


  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).
  • Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
  • Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate effectively with parents and other professionals.
  • A patient and nurturing approach to working with children.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.

  • Have the right to work in the UK. 



  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years. 



  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
