Senior Tree Arborist

Location: Oxfordshire

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: £40,000 per year

Position Overview: Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tree Arborist to join our team in Oxfordshire. As a Senior Arborist, you will play a critical role in managing and maintaining the health of trees across various sites, ensuring they remain safe, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing. You will be responsible for leading a team of arborists, overseeing tree care projects, and providing expert guidance on tree health, pruning, and safety practices. A valid driving license is essential as you will be required to travel between different sites and locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform tree inspections, assessments, and health evaluations, identifying any risks, diseases, or pests affecting trees.

  • Oversee and supervise the pruning, felling, and maintenance of trees, ensuring work is completed safely and to high standards.

  • Lead and manage a team of arborists, delegating tasks, overseeing the work, and providing mentorship and support.

  • Plan and carry out tree removal, thinning, and maintenance projects, ensuring minimal disruption to the environment and public safety.

  • Advise clients on tree health management, maintenance programs, and tree-related risk assessments.

  • Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and environmental guidelines.

  • Conduct risk assessments for trees and make recommendations for remedial works or felling where necessary.

  • Supervise the use of specialist arborist equipment, such as chainsaws, aerial lifts, and stump grinders.

  • Maintain accurate records of tree work, site visits, and ongoing maintenance schedules.

  • Manage budgets for tree care projects and ensure resources are allocated efficiently.

  • Provide expert advice to the team and clients on tree preservation orders (TPOs), conservation areas, and the legal implications of tree work.

  • Collaborate with other teams and departments to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all equipment is well-maintained and compliant with safety standards.

    Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Arborist, with significant expertise in tree care, maintenance, and tree health assessments.

  • Professional qualifications such as a National Diploma in Arboriculture (Level 3) or equivalent.

  • Certification in tree climbing and aerial rescue, such as NPTC units (CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39).

  • A valid driving license is essential for travel between sites.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide junior arborists.

  • Excellent knowledge of tree species, diseases, pests, and the tools and techniques used in tree care.

  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures for tree work.

  • Ability to carry out detailed risk assessments and create safe working procedures for tree-related tasks.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in complex or challenging situations.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with clients and the public professionally.

  • A commitment to high standards of work and attention to detail.

    Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including exposure to heights.

  • Includes climbing, lifting, and operating tree care equipment.

  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required for specific tree care projects.

  • The role involves driving to different locations, so a valid driving license is essential.
