Cranleigh STEM is working exclusively with a leading chemical brand that is recruiting a Tribologist to join its Dorset-based team on a permanent basis. As the company’s expert in tribology, you will take a lead role in designing and running test tokens used in tribology across a range of substrates.

Tribologist responsibilities

Take a lead role in designing and refurbishing test tokens for tribology testing across various substrates.

Summarize extensive data from multiple performance and wear tests into concise reports.

Promote the use and adoption of innovative tribology test routines through clear and compelling reports.

Develop technical documentation and reports and present them to internal stakeholders clearly and persuasively.

Produce technical marketing materials.

Choose the most appropriate tribological test methods from available options.

Adapt ASTM testing standards when possible.

Oversee the health, safety, and maintenance of both Tribo and Contor equipment.

Tribologist requirements

Degree level qualification (ideally PhD level) in Material Science, Engineering or closely related subject.

Experience in tribological testing of lubricants including, fluids, greases and waxes

The design and refurbishment management of test tokens used in tribology testing

Experience in novel tribology test routines and producing supporting documentation to allow publication and marketing

Experience with suitable data management techniques and sampling/down-sampling requirements

Experience with statistical analysis a benefit, coupled with very strong written and Excel skills required

Experience in wear measurement and material surface analysis using white light interferometry (WLI)

Lubricant formulation experience to advise formulators on observed wear and performance from testing.
