Job Description

This appointment will be instrumental in the development of a new service line for Thomas & Adamson. As such, this is a great opportunity for an ambitious and motivated professional in the surveying market to join the business.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Surveyor to spearhead the development of a new department. This department will focus on deploying advanced survey technologies including laser surveys, point cloud surveys, drone-measured surveys, and time-lapse surveys. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in surveying with an understanding of business development, proposal/bid writing, and contract management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Department Development:

- Lead the establishment and growth of the new survey department.

- Develop and implement strategic plans for the department.

- Oversee the acquisition/leasing and maintenance of survey equipment and technology.

2. Survey Operations:

- Manage and execute laser surveys, point cloud surveys, drone-measured surveys, and time-lapse surveys.

- Ensure all surveys are conducted to the highest standards of accuracy and quality, with experience and ability to deliver outputs to LOD 200 – 500.

- Analyse and interpret survey data to produce detailed reports and deliverables.

3. Business Development and Proposal and Bid Writing:

- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the surveying sector.

- Liaise with internal colleagues to identify cross-selling opportunities from internal departments (both within T&A and the wider Egis group).

- Prepare and submit detailed proposals and bids for survey projects.

- Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and presentations.

4. Contract Management:

- Negotiate and manage contracts with clients and subcontractors/suppliers.

- Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and industry regulations.

- Monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure successful project delivery.

5. Team Leadership:

- Recruit, train, and mentor a team of surveyors and support staff, as the department grows.

- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.


Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related field.

- Professional certification (e.g., RICS, PLS) preferred.

- Minimum of 5 years' experience in surveying, with a focus on laser and drone surveys.

- Proven experience in business development, proposal writing, and contract management.

- Strong technical skills in survey software and equipment.

- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
