Associate Director - Electricity Networks Digital Lead

We are seeking an Associate Director to lead the development and implementation of digital solutions across the Electricity Networks market (transmission and distribution).

The Opportunity

We are looking for a passionate, technically, and commercially strong leader with experience as a consultant, or in digital advisory practices, and a strong external presence. You will have a deep understanding of the electricity networks domain, and will be responsible for shaping digital advisory service propositions and leading projects across the lifecycle from strategy, design, delivery and handover into operation. This is a critical role for our business, taking on technical and business leadership of this fundamental area.

You will be a senior member of the digital energy team, leading this service offering, developing deep capabilities, managing bidding, workstreams and commissions for external and internal clients or partners. A key part of your remit will be to secure new and repeat work for the business via both internal contacts and external clients. This role reports into the Global Digital Energy Leader (Simon Evans) and sits within the national Digital Services Portfolio which is a centre of excellence in Arup that combines advanced digital, advisory, technology, analytics, and product expertise to add new value for clients. You will work closely with Arup’s electricity networks business, our virtual digital energy community and the other regional digital energy leaders.

Is this role right for you?

The successful candidate will need in-depth knowledge of the electricity networks market, and a detailed understanding of the digital energy opportunities within it to help our clients address whole-life issues - including optimising system operation, project creation and development and customer engagement. You will have experience leading digital energy projects in a professional setting and managing teams and will have a strong perspective on the role of traditional digital technologies, such as the internet, digital data, software, digital models, that are at a range of maturities in our clients’ businesses, but also a suite of “advanced” technologies that are intrinsically digital and developing fast, such as IoT, connected sensors, AI/ML, 3D printing, drones, smart mobility, CAVs, predictive maintenance, and digital twins.

You will be familiar, and ideally active, within industry-leading digital energy agendas and programmes nationally and internationally, and should stay current with industry trends and developments in digital energy and be able to share insights and best practices within our organization.

Essential skills and knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in the consulting or technology industry demonstrating deep understanding of data, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Recent experience and current understanding of the state of knowledge and thought relating to digital, data, technology expertise, combined with project and change management for digital energy.
  • Proven track record of business development, winning and delivering high quality advisory work for clients in digital electricity networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, form and maintain senior level relationships based on competency and trust particularly around Chief Data / Digital Officers.
  • Active within industry-leading digital energy agendas and programmes nationally and internationally.
  • Established network or relationships with digital energy solution vendors.
