Electrical Estimator / Bid Writer

Based in East London, the company are a very successful and highly-respected Electrical contractor providing Electrical & Security Services, delivering high-quality solutions to a wide range of clients, including commercial, industrial, and public sector organisations, with typical project values ranging from £25k up to £1m.

Established more than 50 years ago, and with an annual turnover exceeding £10m, the business continues to grow and expand, providing electrical engineering, security systems, and maintenance services, and as the result of continued growth, the company are looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Estimator with Bid Writing experience.

You will play a key role in identify potential leads and tendering opportunities via their existing platforms and frameworks, preparing compelling bid submissions and estimating costs for electrical projects. This role requires a strong technical understanding of electrical engineering and an ability to develop winning proposals for tenders, frameworks, and contracts.

The role involves collaborating closely with the commercial director, account manager, technical teams, existing estimators and project managers to craft persuasive bids and ensure accurate cost estimations for competitive pricing.

Electrical Estimator / Bid Writer - Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical projects ranging from £25,000 up to £1,000,000.

  • Conduct material take-offs from drawings and interpret specifications to project needs.

  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.

  • Identify and apply value engineering solutions to reduce costs while maintaining quality.

  • Conduct on-site surveys to support estimation accuracy.

  • Ensure all estimates comply with project timelines, budgets, and contract conditions.

  • Lead the implementation of new estimating software to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to refine bid strategies and increase success rates.

  • Provide post-bid feedback and lessons learned to improve future submissions.

  • Identify potential leads and tendering opportunities via their existing platforms and frameworks

  • Analyse client tender documents, SQs, ITTs and RFQs to understand requirements and evaluation criteria.

  • Draft, review, and submit high-quality bids, PQQs, and proposals in line with client specifications.

  • Develop compelling content, including executive summaries, case studies, and technical responses.

  • Ensure compliance with legal standards, industry regulations, and internal company policies.

  • Maintain and update a bid library with reusable content, templates, and project case studies.

  • Work closely with the directors, project managers, engineers, and sales teams to gather insights and refine bid content.

    Salary and Benefits Package include:

  • Base salary: £60,000 to £80,000 depending on experience

  • Option of Hybrid Working (typically 2 days working from home and 3 days office based)

  • Company Vehicle or Car Allowance and Travel expenses

  • 24 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
