Avionics-Electronics Engineer

Responsible to: Electronics and Avionics Manager

Hours of work: 37 hours per week

Work location: Bedford / Hybrid

Role Purpose

Primarily the role will involve the design and development of embedded electronics

for unmanned air vehicles as part of a multidisciplinary team. Schematic design and

PCB layout of low voltage embedded circuits, taking a design from requirements

capture through to manufacture and test. Overseeing and assisting with system

integration, evaluation and testing.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

  • To develop requirements and specifications for electronic and embedded

    firmware systems.

  • Requirements capture and review.

  • Circuit design and schematic capture.

  • Multi-layer PCB layout design.

  • Good understanding and experience of using or CAD or equivalent package

    for schematic capture and PCB layouts.

  • Interfacing with subcontractors/external design houses.

  • Interfacing with external board manufacturer from quote through to board

    delivery.

  • Basic firmware developer skills (embedded software). Experience of

    embedded programming in C would be advantageous

  • Assembly and testing of prototype designs.

  • Understanding of avionic sub-systems, e.g., navigation aids, RF COMMs,

    GPS-denied navigation systems (e.g., Laser Gyro / MEM augmented IMU),

    state estimation sensors and algorithms.

  • Exposure to previous 'sensor fusion' implementations.

  • Basic understanding of imagery/signal processing techniques.

  • Participate and where necessary lead on design reviews with internal and

    external clients.
