We have an exciting opportunity for a Geographic Information System (GIS) operations specialist to work within the Asset Information Services team at AWE, delivering a professional GIS service to all areas of the business.

As part of the wider Asset Management team, the GIS team are responsible for the maintenance of facility and utility asset configuration baseline information within the corporate GIS, but also in providing the business with desktop map production, an intranet mapping service, web mapping application and bespoke technical services including spatial data analysis, network analysis and 3D modelling.

It is a GREAT time to join AWE as this is the start of a multi-million pound investment in the site as we begin working towards updating the weapons on all of the submarines in the UK CasD programme.

We are located in the countryside between Reading and Basingstoke with onsite parking. There are good bus links between Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Act as the subject matter expert in terms of functionality and capability, supporting business areas in process development and system deployment.

Maintain configuration control of data within the corporate GIS, while providing quality checking and assurance of baseline updates, which includes the management of utility network data in a versioned geodatabase environment

Manage and deliver bespoke technical, geospatial and operational services to AWE departments including spatial analysis, network analysis, cartographic outputs, 3D modelling, data management, data analysis and data exploitation.

Maintain the GIS Intranet mapping services, including assisting the development of solutions in response to emerging corporate needs and relevant technological advancements in the industry

Customise the GIS where necessary to improve the delivery of day-to-day core business as usual activities

Maintain a current level of knowledge of industry best practice and advancements, whilst championing the asset platform throughout AWE.

Contribute to all relevant standards and documentation.

Responsible for personal task management and decisions with the area of work, while providing functional and technical support to the Senior Asset Operations Specialist where required

Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality.

Skills/Experience

Degree/Qualification in GIS or relevant subject, or equivalent and demonstrable experience in a working environment.

Working experience of Esri's ArcGIS Platform

Working experience of utility and facility infrastructure is desirable

Beneficial knowledge of Asset Management Systems (AMS)

Experience of working with 3D datasets

Experience of working/integrating different datasets (e.g. BIM, UAV) or systems (e.g. AMS) is desirable

Application of remote sensing and spatial analysis

A working knowledge of Asset Systems configuration, data capture, data management, data analysis and application

All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
