This challenging and exciting opportunity as Major Projects Director requires a highly qualified professional possessing a strong technical background and demonstrable experience in operating as a senior leader from within the utility or high voltage (HV) power sector
A highly attractive basic salary plus lucrative bonus earning potential and an extensive benefits package is on offer to the successfully appointed candidate, along with security and longevity of work. Hybrid working is available, with regular presence required in the Midlands office, with the expectation of UK wide travel when required.
Due to an increase in contract awards, a significant forward order workload, and a dedication to continued profitable long-term growth, our client is now seeking to appoint an experienced Major Projects Director for their power division. You will be a senior operational lead, holding responsibility for the delivery of multiple contracts, projects and frameworks in your respective workstream, ultimately contributing to business plan goals. You will provide workstream-specific knowledge and expertise to the operations leadership team and the wider business to ensure that future work opportunities are achieved, risks are identified and mitigated, and operational excellence and optimized workstream delivery efficiencies are accomplished.
The Person

  • Of graduate calibre and high technical competence with a suitable business qualification and demonstrable experience in a senior role for recognized utility or HV power organisations
  • Fully commercially aware and experienced in managing large budgets over geographically dispersed regions
  • Excellent people management abilities as well as advanced financial and organisational skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills and able to act effectively and persuasively at a senior level
  • Highly customer focused and aware of and anticipate the company’s needs
  • You share your knowledge and experience with others to act as a figurehead and role model
    The Role
  • Manage operations and teams that provide services for the delivery of utility infrastructure
  • Report in a thorough and timely manner to the Managing Director, and support in identifying priorities, developing plans and designing policies to meet organisational aims and objectives
  • Take responsibility for P&L, including managing the BU’s cost base and operational efficiencies
  • Attend meetings to support your managers and provide customers with high level feedback
  • Provide support to liaise with external stakeholders (LA’s, DNO’s, Suppliers, Subcontractors)
  • Driving project deliverables to ensure schemes are managed to business expectations
  • Leading and developing the team to ensure they are providing a reliable service that meets the company’s KPI’s, quality measures and audit requirements in line with good practice
  • Supporting the SMT in the development of standardised systems and processes
  • Manage the effective utilisation of all the group’s resources at your disposal
  • Develop staff to accept greater responsibility and a higher degree of accountability and carry out effective management of all direct reports
  • Management of team headcount through retention and smart recruiting
  • Working in a collaborative manner with multiple teams to ensure key requirements are communicated, understood, and implemented
  • Work alongside other members of the SMT to ensure the effective delivery of targets
  • Ensure customer satisfaction is at the forefront of all operations activity
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with customers and other external parties
  • Always be commercially aware of your BU’s financial position and act as an ambassador
  • Monitor financial and commercial performance across your BU and report monthly
  • Take ownership of the P&L, whilst managing costs and operational efficiencies
  • Reporting performance in a thorough and timely manner to the Managing Director
  • Agree business budgets and manage the operation within these accordingly
  • Provide support to the commercial team to aid the bidding process
  • Support the business to increase its customer base and secure quoted projects
  • Ensure operational processes and procedures are fully suitable and compatible with the needs of the business and that systems in place provide the best possible value for money
  • Ensure all technical work is carried out to the very highest level of quality
