Here within the @one Alliance, we are a totally collaborative organisation made up of our eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO) and our extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water's capital investment programme.

We'll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

With such an exciting portfolio of projects planned for AMP8 to keep the water flowing across the region, our ability to manage our work and outperform against our customer's expectations will come under greater scrutiny.

To ensure suitable designs, resources and engineering outputs are achieved for Water Infrastructure we are seeking an experienced SuDS Engineer to join our Team!

What will you be doing as our new SUDS Engineer?

You will play a vital role in the delivery of solutions from initial optioneering to the provision of support during the construction phase on a variety of our AMP8 projects within Water Infrastructure across the Anglian Water region in a variety of settings, rural, urban, and public realm.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Excellence

  1. Develop SuDS retrofit designs, coordinating multidisciplinary teams within @one Alliance.
  2. Proficient in hydraulic modelling software like Micro Drainage, Causeway Flow, or InfoDrainage.
  3. Apply Asset Standards, CIRIA guidelines, and British Standards in SuDS design.
  4. Use design principles for pipelines, open channels, and SuDS features.
  5. Read drawings, review modelling data, and produce design sketches.
  6. Provide technical input on scope, budgets, and schedules.
  7. Lead design development from feasibility to detailed design.
  8. Collaborate with hydraulic modellers to review solutions.

Health & Safety

  1. Prepare Pre-Construction Information (PCI) following @one Alliance and CDM2015 guidelines.
  2. Implement design risk management and create risk assessments.
  3. Support Tier 2 Contractors and Principal Contractors in preparing Health & Safety Files.
  4. Respond to technical queries during construction, considering cost, safety, and structural integrity.

Project management/Site Surveys:

  1. Manage surface water projects from feasibility to construction.
  2. Maintain strong relationships with clients, Anglian Water, and stakeholders.
  3. Conduct and document site surveys, review SuDS solutions and identify risks.
  4. Prepare site investigation requirements and manage survey briefs using tools like laser scanning and drones.
  5. Ensure technical work meets agreed timelines, budgets, and standards.
  6. Monitor project progress, addressing any deviations in cost or schedule.
  7. Ensure designs meet Anglian Water and @one Alliance standards for quality and risk.

Customer Collaboration:

  1. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet project goals and ensure efficient delivery.
  2. Present solutions confidently to both internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Understand and apply AW's customer experience charter and ODIs to SuDS projects.
  4. Review designs before construction and handover to AWS.
  5. Support regular team updates and foster collaboration.

Transformation:

  1. Research, propose, and implement innovative SuDS solutions to improve project outcomes.

Person Specification:

To be successful in this position you will ideally hold a degree containing Environmental design/Engineering subjects and have a good understanding of hydraulic design principles including peak flow and volume control by the CIRIA SuDS Manual and non-statutory technical standards for sustainable drainage systems. You will have experience in developing innovative SuDS solutions to provide multiple benefits including the reduction of spills from combined sewer overflows and flood mitigation.

Using your excellent communication skills, you will consult with various stakeholders, including highway authorities, private landowners, local authorities, and internal teams such as solutions, modelling, survey coordination, CAD, enabling to bring about positive outcomes. With a working knowledge of CDM regulations, you will be confident in producing technical sketches to communicate and progress designs diligently. In this role, your interest in environmental design, landscape architecture and ecology, will enable you to harness your enthusiasm for sustainably improving the environment.
