The Role
The Unmanned Mobile Acoustic Target (UMAT) group are based at the British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre (BUTEC) and are seeking applicants with engineering experience to join their existing team at Kyle of Lochalsh, on the west coast of Scotland (4.5 hours' drive from Glasgow / Edinburgh). This Technician role provides an exciting opportunity to work in a challenging area. Very few positions such as this exist where you can be exposed to such a wide range of technologies in a relatively brief time.
UMAT group are responsible for the operation, maintenance and support of two classes of underwater acoustic vehicles; AMASS (Autonomous Mobile Acoustic Submarine Simulator) & SPAT (Self-Propelled Acoustic Target Mod 1), plus a range of other associated equipment. These underwater vehicles primary function is to provide a platform for the Royal Navy to train, test and certify their submarines, staff and equipment in real-time scenarios.
Day-to-day, you will be responsible for:
The operation, maintenance, repair and calibration of the AMASS underwater target & support equipment as directed Deployment & operation of autonomous vehicles / equipment at sea to support trials In-shop testing / calibration of ancillary equipment to ensure safety and compliance (PAT, LOLER etc.) Maintain technical knowledge and competency for UMAT operations and maintenance Use of group paperwork and Equipment Database data entry within a ISO9001:2000 environment
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week based at our Kyle of Lochalsh site.
