Tender Writer – Sales & Marketing Team
Location: Head Office, St Ives, Cornwall.
Salary: Competitive.
Contract: Full time, permanent.
Tempest Photography is the UK’s leading photography company within the education sector. With decades of experience and a trusted reputation, we provide high-quality photography services to schools and academic institutions across the country. As a key supplier to the public sector, we secure many of our contracts through competitive tendering processes.
To support our continued growth, we are looking for a skilled Tender Writer to join our dynamic Sales and Marketing team. This role is critical in producing compelling, compliant, and commercially sound proposals to win new business.
About the role:
The Tender Writer will be responsible for coordinating and producing tender submissions that reflect our capabilities, meet client requirements, and showcase our commitment to excellence. This hands-on role involves writing, editing, and managing tender documents to the highest standards, often to tight deadlines. Due to the nature of bid cycles, some flexibility in working hours will be required.
Key Responsibilities
Tender Development
• Draft, edit, and finalise high-quality, persuasive bid responses that meet all submission requirements
• Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant information on company services, operational processes, and strategic approach
• Ensure all submissions are well-structured, grammatically flawless, and aligned with the tender specifications and branding guidelines
• Understand and interpret client needs and procurement criteria to shape compelling narratives
• Identify and engage with internal subject matter experts and stakeholders as needed
• Continuously refine and enhance content to reflect best practices and feedback from previous bids
Tender Management
• Plan and manage bid timelines, ensuring all deadlines are met without compromising quality
• Coordinate the submission process, including collating supporting documentation and overseeing sample requirements
• Maintain and develop our content library and template repository for future bids
• Contribute to the development and refinement of internal policies and procedures related to bid submissions
• Support strategic decisions on bid/no-bid, tender positioning, and response strategy
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong proofreading skills
• Outstanding written communication and ability to tailor content to different audiences
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
• Proven track record of producing written materials to a high standard under pressure
Desirable Skills & Experience
• Previous experience in a bid/tender writing role, ideally within the public sector
• Understanding of public procurement procedures including frameworks and competitive tenders
• Familiarity with the UK education sector
• Ability to think strategically and contribute to content development and bid approach
