Senior Surveyor (Utilities, Building or Topographical)

An established and growing surveying company, based in the North-West are looking for a Senior Surveyor to join their team.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Project Leadership & Delivery

* Take full responsibility for delivering topographical, measured building, and utility surveys across multiple sites.

* Plan survey strategies, control networks, and site logistics to ensure efficient execution.

* Ensure all projects are completed to agreed deadlines, specifications, and company standards.

* Provide clear instructions and job briefs to field teams before mobilisation.

2. Technical Survey Oversight

* Lead complex surveys using GPS, total stations, laser scanners, and UAVs where applicable

* Establish and verify survey control with a high degree of accuracy

* Troubleshoot technical issues on-site and ensure best practice is followed

* Carry out site checks and validations to maintain data integrity

3. Data Processing & Deliverables

* Process survey data using software such as CAD, N4CE, Reg360/Realworks

* Produce accurate drawings including:

* Topographical surveys

* Utility mapping (PAS 128 awareness)

* Measured building plans

* Review and sign off deliverables before issue to Survey Manager

* Produce Setting out drawings for review by Survey Manager

4. Quality Assurance & Compliance

* Ensure all surveys meet company QA standards and client specifications

* Maintain compliance with:

* PAS 128 (utility surveys)

* Health & Safety regulations (RAMS)

* Industry best practices

* Conduct internal checks to minimise errors and rework

5. Team Management & Mentoring

* Supervise and support junior surveyors and engineers on-site and in-office

* Provide training in equipment use, survey techniques, and data processing

* Lead by example in professionalism, work ethic, and attention to detail

* Prepare Job sheets

6. Client Interaction & Representation

* Attend site meetings and provide technical input when required

* Represent the company professionally on-site & in meetings at all times

* Build strong working relationships to encourage repeat business

* Attend some networking events if required by management

7. Equipment & Technology Responsibility

Ensure proper use, calibration, and care of survey equipment

Get on board with and advise on new technology adoption (e.g., GPS, laser scanning, drone surveys)

Maintain efficiency through effective use of modern survey methods

8. Health, Safety & Site Responsibility

Ensure all site activities are carried out safely and in line with RAMS

Take responsibility for safe working practices under own supervision

Ensure subordinates follow RAMS

9. Commercial Awareness & Support

Assist in scoping works and providing input for quotations

Understand project budgets and work efficiently to maintain profitability

Identify additional opportunities on-site (variations, extra surveys)
