About the Team / Role 

WEX’s Global Travel business provides virtual payment solutions that simplify, secure, and optimize B2B payments across the travel ecosystem. Partnering with online travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and travel management companies, WEX helps customers manage cash flow, improve data visibility, and drive smarter payments through innovative technology.

We’re looking for an experienced and strategic Business Development leader to lead our sales and business development effort across the EMEA region and drive significant growth. This is a critical leadership role that will own the development and execution of our long-term sales strategy, with a focus on opening new markets and expanding our total addressable market (TAM).

This role requires a unique blend of strategic thinking and hands-on execution. You’ll be a leader, a mentor , and an individual contributor, responsible for both managing a high-performing team and meeting personal sales targets within long and complex sales cycles. The ideal candidate will have proven track record of building and executing sales strategies that deliver substantial growth in a fast-paced environment.

How you’ll make an impact 

Lead strategic Growth; Develop and define a comprehensive three-year sales strategy for the EMEA region. Identify, evaluate and launch into new markets, creating compelling business cases and go-to-market strategies to expand our total addressable market (TAM)

Drive Product-led Growth; Act as the voice of the customer, working closely with our product and engineering teams to identify new market opportunities. You’ll analyse client feedback, market trends, and competitive insights to propose and champion product enhancements or new features that would allow us to serve new target audiences, such as specific sub-verticals or market segments 

Drive Revenue & Partnerships; Achieve individual and team sales targets . You’ll be responsible for targeting specific, high value clients and fostering key relationships, including building a robust referral and partnership program.

Lead and Mentor a High-Performing Team; Lead, Mentor, and manage a strategic sales team of sales directors/ managers, with the opportunity to grow the team. Foster a culture of success and continuous improvement

Collaborate Corss-Functionally; Partner with internal teams, including Product, Marketing, Finance, and Operations, to evaluate the feasibility of new market entry and align on go-to market plans. You’ll provide input to help lead Account-Based Marketing (ABM) efforts in each market

Manager the Sales Process; Oversee the solutions sales team responsible for client demos, defining technical solution details, and implementation

A Strategic Thinker; You will have a proven track record of building and executing sales strategies that deliver substantial growth, with deep knowledge of the payments or financial services industry. You’re skilled at translating high-level strategy into actionable plans

A Product Oriented Leader; You have experience not just selling, but also identifying how a product can evolve to meet new market needs. You’re adept at providing actionable, date-driven feedback to product teams to help shape the product roadmap.

An Accomplished Leader; You have proven experience in business development or sales, with a proven track record of managing and motivating teams 

A Hands-on Contributor; You’re a results - orientated leader who can not only manage a team but also effectively navigate long sales cycles and close deals as an individual contributor

A Skilled Communicator; You have excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of engaging and influencing senior-level executives 

An Industry Expert; You have a deep understanding of the payments and/or travel industry, particularly within the EMEA region

Educational Background; Ideally educated with a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is required; a masters degree is preferred.

Fluency in English and at least one other European language is highly desirable
