Job Title: Multiskilled Construction Short Course Tutor

Location: Gateshead and Newcastle Hubs and travel throughout Northeast where needed

Reports to: Senior Operations Manager

Salary: £26,000 to £32,000 per annum

Job Purpose:

Optimum Skills are a growing and tenacious training provider with centres in the North East of England delivering outstanding quality in the field of Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Pre-employment and Commercial Training.

Due to our continued growth we are looking for experienced construction tutors to deliver traineeships/short courses from our Construction Academy in Gateshead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effective Delivery: Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching and assessment across a variety of learning environments, including the classroom, workplace, and community settings, utilising a variety of teaching methodologies to meet the diverse learning needs of learners. Develop and enhance skills and knowledge in learners from diverse backgrounds, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with curriculum development colleagues to tailor and enhance the apprenticeship curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organisational objectives. Apply extensive subject knowledge and/or industry experience to help design challenging, relevant, and engaging activities and develop high-quality learning materials.

  • KPI Achievement: Consistently achieve or surpass KPI targets related to learner progression, retention, achievement, satisfaction and compliance, reporting etc. ensuring the successful delivery and completion of courses.

  • Learner Support: Provide individualised advice, guidance, and support to apprentices, identifying their strengths, areas for improvement, and career aspirations to help them achieve their goals. Use a range of innovative teaching strategies to address individual learning needs.

  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and performance, and ensure compliance with ESFA regulatory requirements and organisational policies and procedures.

  • Constructive Feedback: Provide consistent, constructive feedback to support learner development and goal achievement.

  • Equality and Diversity: Promote an inclusive environment, ensuring equality and diversity are integral to the learning experience.

  • Safeguarding: Manage the safeguarding and welfare of learners, reporting's incidents per safeguarding protocols.

  • Career and Next Steps Guidance: Offer appropriate advice, guidance, and career advice to help motivate learners and optimise their opportunities.

  • Continuous Professional Development: Participate in relevant CPD activities to enhance skills, knowledge, and effectiveness in the role, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices.

  • Teamwork: Communicate effectively with learners, employers, colleagues, and other stakeholders, providing regular updates, feedback, and support to ensure a seamless and successful experience for all parties involved.

  • Additional Responsibilities: Undertake any additional tasks or projects as assigned by management to support the overall success and growth of Optimum Skills.

    Qualifications, Competence & Behaviours

  • Occupational Competence in construction

  • Teaching/Tutoring qualification or willingness to work toward

  • Hold or be willing to work towards relevant teaching qualifications e.g. PTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed etc.

  • Hold or be willing to work towards relevant assessing qualifications e.g. CAVA.

  • Level 2 Functional Skills (English, maths and ICT) or equivalent

  • Proficient in the use of IT systems, including Microsoft Office programmes.

  • Have experience of training and/or assessing in an educational or workplace environment.

  • Demonstrate behaviour consistent with Company Values.

  • Be committed to continuous professional development.

  • Share a current/be willing to undertake a DBS Enhanced Disclosure check.

  • Share references which are satisfactory to the Company.
