Job Description

Over the past three years, Ultra PCS has transitioned to a new business intelligence and data architecture, centred on SQL Server, SSIS, and Power BI. We've developed an in-house Data Warehouse that serves as our OLAP database and manages most ETL processes. Power BI is then used to consistently deliver high-quality data to our internal teams.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to focus primarily on our Financial and Sales data.

This role has two key areas of responsibility: Firstly, to maintain and manage existing data pipelines. Secondly, working with our Business Analyst and PowerBI expert, to define ETL procedures for new data flows, ensuring the necessary data is available to create compelling dashboards and reports.

The intention is that this role will become a data expert in the following areas: Finance, Sales, and Working Capital. This will provide opportunities to guide data analytics requirements coming out of our departments, as well as doing ‘deep dive’ investigative analysis into the key challenges facing PCS.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the Data Systems Director, to help implement PCS’s Business Intelligence Strategy.
  • Maintain and manage PCS’s existing data pipelines, within the Finance/Sales/Working Capital scope of work.
  • Build new data pipelines, providing PowerBI report writers with the information they need to create powerful visualisations.
  • To work on investigative data analysis projects, using data to drive efficiencies into department’s workflows.
  • To propose improvement projects to improve data quality at source.
  • To manage stakeholders and gather requirements for new dataset transformations.
  • Use of analytical techniques to clean, transform, analyse, and interpret data.
  • Work closely with Business Analysts, PowerBI front-end designers, and end-users, to ensure solutions created meet business requirements and are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Ensure development of database architecture, and data pipelines, are documented in line with PCS policies.

Qualifications / Skills Required

  • Good knowledge of Data warehousing theories and methodologies.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Good knowledge of PowerBI (or similar), and data modelling for reporting.
  • Strong experience of reporting on data from ERP & Manufacturing/Operations Systems.
  • Strong experience of working with sales and finance data.
  • Familiarity with transactional database systems.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and in-person.
  • Has the ability to self-manage.
  • Enjoys working at speed, when necessary, but also able to plan and consider options.

Benefits

Every employee is critical to our success and as such we offer a range of flexible employee benefits along with career development opportunities.

  • Flexible working within core working hours
  • 25 days holiday (185 hrs) with the option to buy/sell 5 days (37 hrs) plus bank holidays.
  • 4 times your annual salary in life assurance
  • Flexible benefits package
  • Pension Scheme - Less than 5 years' service up to 5.5% employer contributions, 5 years' service + up to 7.5% employer contributions.
  • Sports and Social club
  • Supportive and friendly working environment with regular team events

You couldn’t be joining the team and Ultra at a more exciting time. Therefore if this sounds of interest, please follow the application process.

Nationality Requirements

Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law and be prepared to successfully undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria.
