FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Software Engineer to work for our client within the banking sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Bristol/Edinburgh.

Our client is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join their front-end engineering team to become part of their ongoing digital-first transformation programme. You'll thrive in a flexible, collaborative setting where you will work on web, mobile, and tablet apps that directly impact millions of customers every day. You will be writing modular, well-tested front-end applications that stay easy to maintain as the codebase and business scale, as well as ensuring their software aligns with existing frameworks, patterns, and practices across the broader engineering community.

Responsibilities

  • Leading by example by developing\implementing front-end react\JavaScript\Typescript and back-end cloud-based Java, Springboot for the most challenging of User Stories

  • Lead code reviews and all aspects of technical delivery to ensure code quality and share knowledge. Front-end and back-end

  • Owning technical problems and driving forward on solutions at pace

  • Resolving complex technical issues and bugs

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers

  • Advise engineers on functional and non-functional aspects of software development e.g., code vulnerabilities and PEN testing resolutions

  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality product platform. In compliance with the defined application and security architecture

  • Identify and implement best practices for software development

  • Ensure timely delivery by managing tasks and priorities effectively

  • Communicate effectively with team and stakeholders

  • Accountable for custodianship governance activities on technical assets that they own

    Requirements

  • A banking/Financial services background is desirable but not essential

  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript, and responsive web design, preferably with reusable components as used by React

  • Extensive knowledge of RESTful APIs, web services, source code repositories and change management tools like Git

  • Knowledge of agile development practices and test automation, especially using tools like Jest, Testing Library, and Cypress

  • Strong experience with build processes and release automation, including using DevOps Pipelines, Nexus, SonarQube, and AquaSec

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills to resolve complex technical issues and bugs

  • Experience working with Private/Public Cloud (GCP, Azure, and OpenShift)

  • A strong grasp of the software development lifecycle, from inception through build to production

  • Familiarity with development aiding tools like NPM and webpack would be beneficial

  • Excellent team working and communication skills
