Polytec are seeking a skilled Turner with experience in programming, setting and operating 4 Star Sliding Head machines. The successful candidate will be responsible for machining a wide variety of components from challenging materials to tight tolerances, ensuring parts are finished to specification. This role requires a strong ability to produce first-run prototypes, manage quick-turnaround small batch quantities and oversee unmanned/lights-out machining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set and operate 4 Star Sliding Head machines (SR20, SV20, SR32J, SR20JII type B).
  • Produce high-quality components to meet tight tolerances and specifications.
  • Perform quick-turnaround setups and runs on small batch quantities.
  • Develop and produce first-run prototypes with precision.
  • Oversee and manage unmanned/lights-out machining operations.
  • Read and interpret complex technical drawings with attention to detail.
  • Ensure all quality checks and outputs align with drawing specifications.
  • Continuously monitor machines to optimize production outputs.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in machining processes.

    Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience with 4 Star Sliding Head machines (programming, setting, and operating).
  • Ability to machine components from a variety of materials, including difficult ones.
  • Strong ability to interpret and work from complex engineering drawings.
  • Experience with unmanned or lights-out machining operations.
  • Familiarity with prototyping and rapid development workflows.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work well within a team.
