Job Description

As a Class 1 LGV Driver for our Transport Department, you'll be responsible for:

  • Making bulk collections and deliveries between various DPD sites and customers nationwide
  • Driving a modern and well-maintained fleet on agreed shift patterns, delivering to HGV-friendly locations
  • Performing trailer swaps or overseeing live unloading and reloading of your trailer, depending on individual customer needs
  • Conducting thorough pre-trip inspections of your vehicle to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety regulations
  • Maintaining accurate logs of your journeys, including driving hours, rest periods, and any incidents or delays
  • Adhering to all road traffic laws and company policies, prioritising safe driving practices at all times
  • Communicating effectively with dispatchers, customers, and colleagues to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries
  • Managing your time efficiently to meet delivery schedules while complying with drivers' hours regulations
  • Handling paperwork accurately, including delivery notes, customs documents, and other relevant forms
  • Representing DPD professionally through your conduct and appearance, maintaining positive customer relations
  • Reporting any vehicle faults, accidents, or other issues promptly to the appropriate personnel
  • Participating in relevant training programmes to enhance your skills and stay updated with industry best practices


Qualifications

What we're looking for:

To be considered for the role you must have:

  • A valid UK Class 1 Driving Licence
  • Minimum 12 months Class 1 experience
  • A valid UK CPC Card
  • A valid UK Digital Tachograph Card
  • Ability to load / unload trailers where needed
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of UK roads and delivery routes

We are also looking for you to demonstrate that you:

  • Recognise the value of providing great customer service
  • Can work to deadlines, are flexible and always go 'above and beyond'
  • Are friendly, approachable, positive, resourceful and professional
  • Are able to multi-task and problem solve
  • Have strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Are proficient in using GPS 
  • Have basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle troubleshooting
  • Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
