Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Bridge Inspector to join a forward-thinking engineering consultancy experiencing rapid growth. With a diverse and high-profile portfolio spanning major infrastructure projects across the UK, this role is ideal for someone with experience in bridge inspections and a passion for structural integrity and safety.

The Company

Our client is a leading consultancy with expertise across highways, rail, energy, utilities, water, commercial development and legal sectors. Working with a wide range of clients-including national contractors, developers, insurers, and public sector bodies-they provide high-quality inspection, testing and investigation services on a wide variety of structures.
Due to continued expansion, they are now seeking an experienced Bridge Inspector to join their dedicated team.

The Role

As a Bridge Inspector, you'll be involved in diverse inspection projects-from single-span structures for private clients to full network asset management programmes for major infrastructure operators.
Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out safety, general, principal, special and assessment inspections

Conducting visual inspections, drone surveys, hammer tap surveys, corrosion and defect assessments

Using specialist NDT and structural monitoring equipment

Undertaking inspections in confined spaces, over water, at height or via MEWPs, powerboats, pontoons or rope access

Supporting stock data reporting and technical reviews

Assisting in planning and implementing inspection programmes

Coordinating access, permits, traffic management and liaising with clients and contractors
The role will involve UK-wide travel, with occasional nights away or international assignments. Flexibility for night and weekend work is required-but this is balanced with a strong company focus on work-life balance, flexible working arrangements and employee wellbeing.

Essential Requirements

Relevant civil or structural engineering qualification (e.g. BTEC HNC)

Experience in inspecting bridges or similar structures

Strong report writing and documentation skills

Familiarity with relevant guidance (e.g. CS 450, Inspection Manual for Highway Structures)

Willingness to gain LANTRA Bridge Inspection Competence Scheme (BICS) certification if not already held

Full UK driving licence

Certification in PASMA, IPAF, PTS, CSCS, confined spaces, emergency first aid

Knowledge of CS 462 and BA35/90

Experience using SMIS, Agile, Bridge Station or other reporting tools

You'll be someone who thrives in a hands-on, outdoors environment, just as much as in technical reporting. The role will suit a motivated, self-sufficient professional who takes pride in accurate and detailed inspections and reporting. You'll be comfortable using a variety of access methods and inspection techniques, and you'll enjoy problem-solving and thinking beyond the "tick-box" approach.
The company is known for its innovative and proactive ethos, and they're looking for someone who shares their "can-do" mindset and professional standards.

How to Find Hidden UAV Jobs in the UK Using Professional Bodies like IMechE, RAeS & More

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, are transforming industries in the UK—from surveying, inspection, and agriculture to emergency services, logistics, and defence. As the sector evolves, so too does the demand for skilled UAV professionals: pilots, systems engineers, data analysts, AI specialists, and regulatory experts. Yet many of the best UAV jobs—especially in R&D, government contracts, and specialist commercial operations—are never advertised publicly. They’re often filled through trusted networks, working group referrals, pilot programmes, and specialist community engagement. In this guide, you’ll discover how to access hidden UAV jobs in the UK by engaging with professional bodies like the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), APRIL (UK), and regional drone networks. You’ll learn how to use directories, CPD events, special interest groups (SIGs), and industry clusters to position yourself at the forefront of opportunity—before roles are even published.

How to Get a Better UAV Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Being made redundant from a role in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drone technology can be disheartening—especially in such a cutting-edge and evolving sector. But with the growing adoption of UAVs in defence, surveying, logistics, agriculture, inspection, and emergency response, your skills remain in demand. Whether you're a drone pilot, UAV systems engineer, geospatial analyst, flight software developer, or mechanical integrator, this guide will help you bounce back stronger after redundancy.

UAV Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Work Out Your True Worth in Seconds

Why last year’s pay survey already misleads UK drone professionals Ask a BVLOS Pilot stitching flight plans over the Irish Sea, a Drone Data Analyst crunching multispectral crop imagery, or an Avionics Engineer debugging quad‑rotor ESCs at midnight: “Am I earning what I deserve?” The honest answer drifts faster than a geofence breach. Since early 2024 the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) introduced sandbox corridors for beyond‑visual‑line‑of‑sight operations, Network Rail signed a multi‑million‑pound inspection contract, & the UK’s Future Flight Challenge pumped an extra £105 million into autonomous‑air‑mobility trials. Each shock nudges salary bands. A salary guide printed in 2024 is already a fossil — blind to the surge in middle‑mile drone logistics, the Highlands’ offshore wind survey boom, or the police drones standard now mandating dual‑thermal payloads. To replace guesswork with evidence, UAVJobs.co.uk has distilled a transparent three‑factor formula. Plug in your discipline, UK region & seniority; you’ll see a realistic 2025 baseline — no stale averages, no fuzzy “competitive” labels. This article unpacks the formula, spotlights six forces inflating UAV pay, & sets out five practical moves to boost your market value inside ninety days.
