Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Construction Manager within the Route wide Delivery team. This role will be based on site in locations around Kingsbury and Lichfield The northernmost site of the West Midlands stretch of HS2 runs from Water Orton to Lichfield. The sites are mainly rural and will link HS2 to the West Coast Mainline track.

Role purpose:

To provide strategic operational management, leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising engineering and supervisory resources at all levels and facilitation of strong links with other teams within and external to the project.

The Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, timely and within budget of the delivery of MEP Buildings/Headhouse at Bromford East & West Portals and Bromford Intermediate Shaft. The Construction Manager responsibility includes the following responsibilities:

Manages the Health and Safety at the Sites in line with project objectives and monitors performance, steering towards success
Monitors effectiveness of the H & S Management System and drives change when required
Manage the execution of work, and monitor the sub-contractor performance Implement and monitor the site supervision
Manage the internal and external interfaces in relation with the execution of the works Ensure the compliance with technical and contractual requirements, especially with regards to Health & Safety and Environment
Produce, review and approve of Method Statements Risk Assessments and ensure correct implementation, and undertake periodic reviews
Develop works programme and lead any programme review with the site team and subcontractors
Reports progress, reasons for difference and identify any improvement to mitigate delay and maximize opportunity
Ensure the site team of each site maintains accurate diary Sets
Quality targets and KPI's in line with Project objectives and monitors performance
Manages the implementation of systems and processes for Right First-Time approachExperienced required:

Engineering Degree holder, or similar equivalent, with multi-disciplinary breadth.
Proven experience in managing subcontractors and working with a major contractor
Strong on technical details and with good communication skills.
Strong leadership and management skills, including completion of formal qualification (e.g. ILM).
Good Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and current legislation and standards associated with all engineering aspects.
Working knowledge of the NEC.
Large scale project experience (eg rail, buildings…).

We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Overall, we will be building the following across all our sites:

• 9.3km of viaducts

• 62 overbridges

• 35 cuttings

• 56 culverts

• 62 embankments

• 2 twin bore tunnels and 2 cut and cover tunnels

• 28 underbridges and 11 underpasses

Based in locations around Kingsbury and Lichfield The northernmost site of the West Midlands stretch of HS2 runs from Water Orton to Lichfield. Role description:

This role will manage a team to coordinate the safe delivery of all operational activities on major projects ensuring Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental, programme and budget requirements are met. Build and motivate a cohesive on-site construction team, providing guidance and support for optimal performance, including co-ordination with Works Managers, General Forepersons, Forepersons, and everyone in between. Working as part of the senior construction delivery team, taking direction from construction lead and project senior leadership team (SLT), providing guidance to wider team. Supporting managers in leading focussed forecast lookahead meetings, providing authority and guidance where required. 

Experienced required:

Experience as Construction Manager, Project Manager, or similar SLT position within construction. 
Evidence of successful experience in Civil / Infrastructure projects, ideally working on Earthworks, Bridges, Highways, & utilities. 
Understanding of Engineering principles.
Comprehensive understanding and experience of a wide range of construction techniques and best practices.
Relevant CSCS Card.
Relevant SMSTS Card.

Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management.
Basic Computer competence (E-mail, MS word, excel & intranet).
