Alcema are a Principal Contractor, serving the Public & Private Sectors creating New Energy Efficient Buildings, carrying out large scale Refurbishments / Fit-Outs and providing Fire Safety Services and Remediations in Education, Healthcare, Commercial and Leisure industries, as well as Public and Private Office & Residential Buildings.

THE ROLE

Through continued growth we are seeking a skilled IT Engineer to join our vibrant team.

You will provide on-site technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for a wide range of IT systems and equipment across London, South East and Midlands, although largely at our Head Office, Bourne End, Bucks.

Working with the IT Manager you will play a pivotal role in resolving technical issues, implementing solutions and delivering exceptional service to our staff, ensuring their technology needs are met with professionalism and expertise.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Pre site surveys (desktop) for connectivity, network coverage to ascertain equipment selection
  • Pre installation site visit – liaising with project team to understand IT package requirements and optimised IT infrastructure layout specifications
  • Procurement and preparation of equipment, in conjunction with external provider
  • Confirmation of IT profiles (for onboarding set up) to external provider
  • Testing of equipment and software applications (during set ups) Teams, Cloud Server etc.
  • Preparation of RAMS for the on site installation
  • Arranging agreed installation dates with construction project teams and taking all necessary equipment to site
  • Supervising installation, including CAT 6 cabling, power cables & switches, set up of routers, starlink, aerials (internal / external), MFP’s, screens, PC’s, microphones, cameras etc.
  • Construction site staff training on installed equipment with regular visits throughout duration of project to train new users / troubleshoot common themes
  • Dismantle of IT equipment at end of construction projects, returning all equipment to HO, reviewing equipment for maintenance / upgrades etc.

Working with External Consultant / Helpdesk

  • Responding to incidents / requests that are escalated from the helpdesk
  • Manage user change requests (new software, additional file access etc) within provided guidelines
  • Liaise with internal teams on updates of helpdesk tickets
  • Working proactively to seek to reduce the number of service requests through regular root cause analysis
  • Logging calls to third suppliers (Datto Workplace, ViewPoint, Foxit, Sharp etc) and chase for resolutions where response agreements are breached
  • With consultant Account Manager / Project Managers improve knowledge share across helpdesk to implement rollout updates as directed by IT Manager
  • Assist with the maintenance of accurate asset management

Maintenance

  • Provide optimal availability of IT equipment and resources to all staff
  • Test and evaluate new technology and software
  • Issue / install software ensuring licensing and version control arrangements are complied with
  • Assist in administration of Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and deployment of applications such as InTune, (Soti) Mobi Control, Azure etc.
  • Assist in the build, maintenance and deployment of PCs (with external consultant)
  • Ensure effective security arrangements are in place such as patches, virus protection and security of physical devices, with external consultant
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults and ensure that all components comply with configuration management procedures, logging all changes and actions
  • Install/uninstall IT equipment and software and arrange for specialist transportation / storage where required (MFP’s)
  • Ensure IT work areas including communications cabinets, server rooms, patch panels and storerooms are clean, tidy, safe and secure and maintain accurate records of cabling for patch management

Administration

  • Maintain documentation and file structures (relating to role) and contribute to the development of best working practices
  • Carry out administrative duties for the IT Manager, creating reports and spreadsheets as required
  • Complete daily / weekly / monthly IT related tasks and processes as directed by the IT Manager

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS (PRE-REQUISITE TO RECRUITMENT)

  • 3 yrs+, fast paced environment with proven experience as an IT Service Engineer / IT Administrator or similar role
  • Proficiency and analytical skills in troubleshooting and resolving hardware / software issues
  • Experience in configuring and managing network devices, including routers, switches and firewalls and setting up and maintaining VPNs, LANs and WANs
  • Experience with cloud services
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices including threat detection and prevention
  • Ability to monitor system performance and ensure system availability / reliability
  • In-depth knowledge of IT related to a particular specialty
  • Project Management skills to delegate tasks and monitor progress toward project completion
  • CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA N+
  • Microsoft Certification
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently
  • Enhanced DBS
