Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support for KS1 Child with SEMH Needs in Christchurch

Are you a compassionate and patient Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference? We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 1 pupil with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with a child who requires tailored support to thrive both academically and emotionally. You will be a key part of a caring team, helping to create a safe, nurturing environment where the child feels understood, supported, and empowered to learn.

What we’re looking for:



  • Experience or a genuine interest in supporting children with SEMH needs


  • A calm, empathetic approach with excellent communication skills


  • The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, parents, and staff


  • Flexibility and patience to adapt to the child’s evolving needs


  • Commitment to working collaboratively within the school community


What you’ll be doing:



  • Providing one-to-one support tailored to the child’s emotional and educational requirements


  • Assisting with classroom activities and behaviour strategies


  • Supporting social skills development and helping the child engage positively with peers


  • Working closely with teachers and SEND coordinators to monitor progress and adapt support

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
