3D Modeller – Earthworks

Location: Aylesbury

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum plus full benefits package

Overview

A leading earthworks and civil engineering contractor is seeking a skilled 3D Modeller to join their Aylesbury-based engineering team.

The successful candidate will support live earthworks and infrastructure projects through the creation of accurate 3D terrain models, GPS-ready machine control data, and detailed volumetric analysis.

This position would suit a Surveyor or Engineer with a strong background in earthworks who is looking to transition into a digital modelling role, applying practical field experience to technical design and data management.

Key Responsibilities

Create and maintain 3D earthworks and terrain models using design drawings, survey data, and CAD inputs.

Produce GPS machine control models (Trimble / Topcon) for use across multiple projects.

Generate cut/fill analyses, volumetric reports, and cross-sections for both tender and live works.

Work closely with engineers, surveyors, and the Engineering Manager to ensure models reflect site conditions.

Manage digital data, model revisions, and QA documentation.

Support the implementation of digital workflows for design coordination and delivery.

Provide input to visualisations and model-based planning for project teams.

Skills and Experience Required

Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Centre (TBC), or equivalent 3D modelling software.

Strong understanding of earthworks modelling, surface creation, and volumetric analysis.

Experience producing data for machine control systems (Trimble / Topcon).

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and survey data accurately.

Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Background in earthworks, highways, or heavy civils preferred.

Desirable

HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related discipline.

Experience working with drone survey data or point clouds (Pix4D, Agisoft, Trimble Stratus).

Familiarity with BIM Level 2 workflows and digital construction processes.

Experience using Navisworks, InfraWorks, or similar visualisation tools.
