Carmichael UK is working with a Tier 1 contractor on the HS2 project in Northamptonshire. We are currently seeking an experienced Freelance Land Surveyor to support works.

This role will suit a Land Surveyor with strong technical capability and monitoring experience, who is confident working on complex, large-scale infrastructure projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Land Surveyor, you will support the establishment and maintenance of the site survey control network, ensuring accurate reporting and validation across different construction stages. You will undertake a wide range of survey activities using modern survey technology and play a key role in data analysis, reporting, and coordination with site teams.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Senior Land Surveyor in establishing and maintaining survey control networks

Carry out monitoring surveys, reporting movement and validating construction stages

Undertake land, topographical, hydrographic, and measured building surveys

Setting out and as-built surveys across the project

Carry out topographical and engineering surveys, including laser scanning

Manage registration and post-processing of point cloud data

GNSS network surveying, precise traversing, and precise levelling

Prepare survey drawings using AutoCAD and Trimble Business Centre

Coordinate with Site Engineers regarding priorities, changes, deviations, and non-conformances

Liaise with consultants for inspection and approval processes

Support drone surveys for earthworks measurement

Prepare reports and present survey data as required

About You

HND / Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or equivalent

Proven experience in a similar Land Surveyor role on major civil engineering projects

Monitoring experience is essential

Strong knowledge of Trimble total stations, GNSS receivers, and levels

Proficient in Trimble Business Centre and AutoCAD (2D & 3D)

Experience preparing survey-related Method Statements and Risk Assessments

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with solid report-writing ability

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Valid CSCS card
