Remote Pilot Specialist (Freelance Contractor)

Location: Germany (Frankfurt-based preferred) with travel as required

Department: Flight Operations

Contract Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor

The Role

Skyports is seeking experienced Remote Pilot Specialists to support our growing Drone Services operations across Germany and Europe on a freelance basis.

This role goes far beyond piloting. We're looking for highly capable operators who can take ownership of complex missions, contribute to operational planning, and support the safe delivery of advanced drone operations across a variety of environments.

You will be operating cutting-edge drone platforms in support of commercial, industrial, and public-sector missions, including logistics, inspections, surveillance, emergency response, and maritime operations.

Assignments may range from local deployments in Germany to supporting operational activities elsewhere in Europe and internationally, depending on project requirements.

No two projects are the same.

You may be conducting drone deliveries to offshore assets, supporting critical infrastructure inspections, assisting with environmental monitoring operations, or helping establish new flight operations in emerging markets. Between deployments, you may support mission planning, operational documentation, risk assessments, training activities, and regulatory compliance work remotely.

Wherever you are, your responsibility remains the same: deliver safe, professional, and effective drone operations while helping advance the future of aviation.

About You

  • Certified Remote Pilot with relevant EU drone qualifications and permissions.
  • Proven commercial, defence, public safety, or industrial drone operations experience.
  • Demonstrated BVLOS operational experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of drone systems, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational planning.
  • Experience developing Concept of Operations (ConOps), risk assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of aviation safety principles and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Comfortable working independently and representing Skyports professionally with clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Germany and internationally when required.
  • Fluent German and professional English language skills preferred.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on some of the most advanced commercial drone operations in the world.
  • Flexible project-based engagements.
  • Competitive day rates or project-based remuneration.
  • Exposure to international operations and emerging aviation technologies.
  • Collaboration with a global team of experienced BVLOS operators and aviation professionals.
  • Potential for long-term contractor engagements based on project requirements and performance.

How to Apply

If you are an experienced drone operator looking to work on challenging and innovative projects, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit your CV together with a brief summary of your operational experience, qualifications, availability, and expected day rate.

Skyports is committed to creating an inclusive environment and welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

Where to Advertise UAV Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise UAV jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, defence channels and community routes that reach drone, autonomy and BVLOS engineers. The candidate pool spans aeronautical engineers, embedded systems developers, flight control specialists, RF engineers, payload integration experts and regulatory affairs professionals — a highly specific multidisciplinary mix that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest UAV candidates often come from defence backgrounds, aerospace primes or academic research groups, and move between roles through specialist networks, industry events and sector-specific channels rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by UAVJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise UAV and drone roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

UAV Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

UAV Jobs UK 2026: drone engineering roles, salaries and the autonomous aviation hiring trends shaping UK UAV careers over the next three years. The unmanned aerial vehicle sector has spent the better part of a decade promising to transform industries. That transformation is now happening — not as the sudden revolution that early advocates predicted, but as a steady, well-funded, and increasingly regulated maturation that is reshaping the jobs market in ways that are both significant and durable. Drones are no longer a novelty technology operated by enthusiasts and a handful of specialist defence contractors. They are operational infrastructure across an expanding range of industries — logistics and last-mile delivery, infrastructure inspection, precision agriculture, emergency services, construction surveying, maritime operations, and military and defence applications that have grown dramatically in strategic importance. Each of those sectors is generating its own distinct hiring demand, drawing on overlapping but meaningfully different skill sets, and creating career pathways that did not exist at anything approaching meaningful scale three years ago. For job seekers, the UAV jobs market of 2026 represents a genuine opportunity — but one that rewards those who understand the sector's specific technical, regulatory, and commercial dynamics rather than those who simply bring enthusiasm and a drone licence. The roles being created now are more technically sophisticated, more commercially oriented, and more regulatory-aware than the UAV jobs of even three years ago. This article breaks down what the UK UAV jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career ahead of the next wave of drone industry growth.
